Recreation Grants Recommendation Process
DIRA is the manager/facilitator of the process for providing recommendations to the Comox Valley Regional District from Denman Island residents for the allocation of grants to provide recreation services.
Each year, DIRA calls a public meeting of residents of Denman Island which elects the members of the Denman Island Recreation Grants Committee for that year. Three nominees willing to serve on this independent committee are provided by DIRA. The committee may have up to nine members.
The Denman Island Recreation Grants Committee-
– advertises and distributes application forms on Denman Island for the recreation services grants provided by the Comox Valley Regional District in accordance with Regional District Bylaw No. 2624, 2004, the “Denman Island Recreation Service Establishment Bylaw”,
– reviews and evaluates all applications received, and
– at a public meeting of residents called by DIRA, presents for approval its recommendations as to which applicants should receive grants and for what portions, in dollars, of the total amount available.
The DIRA Board of Directors then forwards the recommendations, as approved, to the Comox Valley Regional District.
