Climate Action Committee

Welcome to the homepage of the newly formed Climate Action Committee under DIRA. The first meeting of the Committee will be held on Oct 23 at the Community School, 6:30-8 pm.

Following a successful series of Climate Change information sessions in 2018 at the Community School we are now moving into the climate action phase.

Our first event was held on Sept 18th at the Community Hall with guest speaker Guy Dauncey. Guy is a long time activist for Climate action and currently lives in Ladysmith. He brought a message of what we are facing with respect to Climate change and a Challenge of what we as Denman Islanders can do in response. His talk was videotaped and is available at https://youtu.be/5DE4iC-XCgU. Those at the presentation were asked to sign up and choose their degree of willingness to participate. Over 30 people expressed interest in being on the Climate action committee. This group will focus on communicating our potential actions to all Islanders.

We will also focus on a number of areas presented by Guy where we can take action to reduce the effects of climate change locally and beyond the Island through advocacy. Guy provided a useful list of areas to focus upon… our very own Denman Island Personal Planning – 100% Climate and Nature Friendly by 2025. The overall goal is to get to Carbon neutrality on Denman by 2025.

SO LET’S GET GOING!!!!

Donations to our efforts are most welcome
